When you inspect your vehicle, there are several things you will need to check. One part that many forget about until there is an issue are the tires. The tires are the only part that has direct contact between the surface of the road and your vehicle. Without the tires, your vehicle will not be able to move. Having good tires is important to the overall efficiency and performance of the vehicle. If the tires are starting to show signs of wear and tear, they will need to be replaced. Make sure to bring the vehicle in so we can check the tires on a regular basis. We can also recommend when the tires should be aligned or rotated. By having these tasks done, you can help to ensure the tires are in the best condition possible. If you ignore alignment schedules, the tread can wear poorly on the tires.

The Air Pressure should be Checked Regularly

Make sure to check the air pressure on the tires on a regular basis. If you are not sure how much air should be in the tires, make sure to consult the vehicle owner’s manual. The recommended air pressure for the tires on your vehicle can also be found on the inside doorjamb of the driver’s door. You can also bring the vehicle in and we can inspect the air pressure for you. If you notice that the air is decreasing from the tires, it could be a leak. Over time the air leak can become worse and may eventually make the tire flat when you would need to drive the vehicle. Over inflated tires can also be an issue because they are more prone to picking up sharp objects on the surface of the road. They will also cause poor handling and stability on the road, because the tires do not have the proper amount of contact to the surface of the road. If the tread has worn down, then you may notice that the vehicle slides in one direction or another.

Remember to check the Tread Wear

When you check the tread on the tires, it can be done in just a few seconds. Take a penny and place it upside down in the tread of each tire. If you can see the top of Lincoln’s head, then there is not enough tread for the tires to grip the road properly. If the tread is low, make sure to bring the vehicle in so we can inspect the tires for you. When checking the tread, if you notice the tread has worn differently, it could mean that the tires are not wearing correctly. Bring the vehicle in and we can see if a tire alignment or tire rotation would be beneficial for your vehicle.

Don’t forget about the Spare Tire

When checking the tires, remember to inspect the spare tire in your vehicle. The spare tire should be inspected for the proper amount of air pressure, tread wear, and overall condition that it is in. You can also bring the vehicle in and we can inspect the spare tire for you. This can help to ensure you have a safe and reliable ride when you drive.
